APPLICATIONS

EV MOTOR

EIS has a robust material inventory and a well-established distribution network, ensuring reliable supply to a broad array of applications in the EV motor manufacturing sector. By teaming up with a company with a strong track record in supplying products to traditional electric motor manufacturers, as well as their Tier and aftermarket partners, your company gains a competitive edge in the ever-evolving landscape of eMobility.

EIS provides electrical insulating expertise, thermal management solutions, and advanced materials to manage the high-temperature environments faced by EV motors. We address slot liner delamination issues and mitigate challenges associated with the automatic insertion of slot liners in EV motor production by utilizing a single substrate insulation liner instead of a multi-laminated material. EIS helps manufacturers ensure slot liners do not jam or get damaged during the insertion process into EV motors.

EIS can help design engineers develop innovative electrical insulation solutions, electrical conductivity, EMI/RFI shielding, heat dissipation, and cushioning for vibration absorption. Employing essential fabrication processes and quick-turn rapid prototyping, we engineer tailored solutions that align seamlessly with your technical specifications.

MATERIALS

SLOT LINER

EIS addresses critical material and process issues and mitigates automatic insertion challenges for slot liners in EV motor production.

Delamination in slot liner insulation not appropriate for an application can lead to lower efficiencies, shorter life and ultimately failures in motors.

EIS can offer single substrate insulation options as well as high performance laminates that perform in ATF as well as withstand the conditions of an eMotor.

EIS’ portfolio of products allows us to provide an array of distribution and custom fabricated products for the entire vehicle and leverage our converting capabilities to provide our customers with value added services unmatched in the industry.

EV BATTERY

Electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) rely on advanced batteries as their primary energy source, making them a critical component in vehicle manufacturing. The complexity and power of these batteries require collaboration with knowledgeable materials experts who have precise converting capabilities to ensure the application of advanced materials enhances battery performance, reduces environmental impact, and improves recyclability.

We offer customized thermal management solutions, including thermal insulation, dissipation, and sealant materials. These solutions provide thermal runaway protection and fire resistance within and between battery packs. Our offerings ensure proper heat dispersion and effective fire containment, enhancing both safety and reliability. For instance, EIS can convert die-cut insulating foam to cushion and protect the battery, use hot melt adhesives for potting, and employ silicon sponges to improve heat dissipation. Additionally, we offer precision slitting of aluminum and copper-based anodes and cathodes, ensuring optimal battery performance and longevity.

Designing a battery to perform optimally, regardless of its size, involves addressing several critical considerations:

  • Utilizing interface materials to remove or dissipate heat
  • Introducing electrical insulators
  • Maintaining proper electrical contact
  • Shielding from debris and environmental conditions
  • Deploying materials for cushioning and vibration absorption to protect cells and electrical leads

CHARGING STATION

EIS has invested in the electric vehicle market to help service the emerging products surrounding this industry. Charging stations are another area where we can provide manufacturing and engineered solutions. Our fabrication and converting division can deliver the products and expertise to help solve any manufacturing challenges.

MATERIALS

AUTOMOTIVE FABRICATION & LABELING

EIS has extensive experience in providing converted material solutions to the automotive industry. We produce automotive manufacturing materials for applications such as masking for headlights, automotive gasket materials, electrical insulation materials, thermal management materials, and die-cut materials that attach carpeting. We also provide many labeling solutions for application inside electric vehicles.

SOLUTIONS

ANODE & CATHODE SLITTING

PROBLEM

The process of designing, constructing, and assembling the components of an EV battery needs to be extremely detailed. The precise cutting and slitting of anodes and cathodes is a crucial step in battery production to build a high-performance and reliable battery. Additionally, anode and cathode slitting oftentimes creates a bottleneck for fast and efficient production. Long lead times and poor edge control when cutting and slitting anodes and cathodes are common challenges seen in the market and can lead to inconsistencies in the sizes and shapes of the electrodes. This in turn can affect the performance and lifespan of the battery, create inefficient charging, and even result in severe motor failure.

SOLUTION

Slitting and cutting of anodes and cathodes must be extremely precise and to the manufacturer’s specifications. Improving edge control when cutting and slitting requires careful attention to the cutting process and the use of appropriate equipment and techniques to ensure there are no variances. Long lead times are often experienced due to the lack of infrastructure, demonstrating how imperative it is to have the specialized equipment that enables rapid prototyping.

RESULT

EIS has worked with EV Battery manufacturers to overcome this challenge to decrease production time and cost and increase battery life longevity. EIS provides high-quality cuts customized for the manufacturer’s required technical specifications through precision slitting and rapid prototyping of anodes and cathodes. As one of North America’s leading distributors of electrical process materials, combined with over 30 locations and fabrication facilities, EIS has extensive expertise in working with copper and aluminum. Our long-standing relationships with suppliers, combined with our ability to procure and source materials quickly, ensure the production of high-quality and extremely precise slitting and converting for best-in-class industry lead times.
