This spinning indicator (spindicator) beats the old-fashioned "ball test" for newly-wound stators and questionable old windings. Not only can you use a lower voltage than with a steel ball or ball bearing, but you don't have to chase the ball across the shop when you finish testing. The three sizes make it very easy to check for shorted coils, reversed coils, misconnections and direction of rotation for single and three phase stators of any size even linear motor stators. - What's more, you can make the same tests on three phase rotors without using a compass and a DC power supply. Because of the spindicators' sensitivity, you can reduce your test voltage to one half or less than what you need now to "run the ball". This means your winders and mechanics will have less chance of accidentally turning a "rotation test" into a "smoke test".
