Electrical OEM Success Stories
Prototype to Production Time
Submitted by Mike Fitzpatrick
Customer: Located in the East.
Product(s) Manufactured: Transformers, Controls, switching equipment for utilities.
Problem: The customer is developing a new line of switching equipment that requires wiring assemblies in a panel. Customer is not set up to do the wiring and wants to buy the assemblies pre-made and preformed. However, this requires extensive engineering and drafting time to create the drawings and the project was stalled waiting on them to complete the drawing.
Solution: EIS introduced Roytec, a manufacturer of wiring assemblies, to address the problem. EIS worked with the customer to supply the materials they needed to make the prototype panels then the customer shipped the prototypes to Roytec. Roytec then completed the drawings for the assemblies, quoted them (thru EIS) and provided prototype assemblies that allowed the customer to meet production deadlines. In addition, Roytec and EIS recommended alternatives on the assemblies that reduced cost and improved final production times.
Features/Benefits/Results: Reduced “prototype to production” time by several weeks. Reduced engineering costs for new product. Reduced materials and processing costs by providing “improved” complete wiring assemblies.
